The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016, commonly known as RERA, mandates that all real estate agents operating in Maharashtra must be registered with MahaRERA. Operating without RERA registration can attract penalties of up to ₹10,000 per day and imprisonment of up to one year. As of 2026, MahaRERA has streamlined the online registration process, making it faster and more transparent.

To register as a RERA agent in Maharashtra, you need to meet the following eligibility criteria: you must be an Indian citizen, at least 18 years of age, with no criminal record or pending cases related to fraud or moral turpitude. Both individuals and companies/firms can apply for RERA agent registration. The registration is valid for 5 years and must be renewed before expiry.

The documents required for RERA agent registration include: PAN card, Aadhaar card, address proof, passport-size photograph, educational qualification certificates, income tax returns for the last 3 years, and a declaration in the prescribed format. If applying as a company or firm, you also need the incorporation certificate, partnership deed, board resolution, and the firm's PAN and GST registration.

The registration process is entirely online through the MahaRERA portal (maharera.maharashtra.gov.in). Create an account, fill in the application form with personal and business details, upload the required documents, and pay the registration fee. The fee for individual agents is ₹10,000, while for firms it is ₹50,000. After submission, MahaRERA typically processes the application within 30 days.
